about craft
Crewel embroidery of Kashmir is a distinguished craft known for its intricate and artistic needlework. Using a special hook called an ‘aari,’ artisans create elaborate floral and paisley patterns on fabric, typically wool or cotton. The designs are inspired by the region’s natural beauty, featuring motifs like flowers, leaves, and vines. This embroidery uses woolen threads, giving it a unique texture and richness. Crewel embroidery is traditionally used to adorn home furnishings such as curtains, cushions, and bedspreads.
