Block Making has been an ancestral practice for Tahir’s family with his great grandfather being one of the prominent block makers dating 70 years back. According to Tahir, his great grandfather worked along with the Saadh community, working with Fancy dyeing and printing company known for making blocks for the Britishers and for European export. Originally standard 6×6 blocks were made and exported. The craft has been carried on by his father and him throughout these years diversifying blocks not only for use but also for decorational purpose. Small motifs and booties in blocks were carved by his father for commercial sale to students,designers and individuals from all fields to have access to this traditional craft.

Craft & Experience Block Making was a lucrative craft in the olden days and has been the traditional work of the family for generation. It can be traced back to 1768AD. The blocks are made of Sheesham and are intricately carved. They are of all sizes, ranging from big butis to small floral or check motif. The carving designs include : Nasarjangi, Pachambara, Baghdadi, Jamavar, Lucknowi, Muradabadi, Bhootnath, Kalamkari, Persian, Mughal, Ajanta, Dhaka, etc.
