about craft

Kutch carpets are typically woven on pit looms or fly shuttle looms. The process begins with the preparation of the warp and weft threads, which are often made from wool, cotton, or a blend of both. Natural dyes play a significant role in Kutch carpet weaving. Artisans use a variety of natural sources, including plants, minerals, and insects, to create rich and vibrant colors. Master dyers experiment with these natural dyes to develop new shades and hues, adding a contemporary touch to traditional designs. Each carpet tells a story, reflecting the cultural heritage and artistic sensibilities of the region. The weavers draw inspiration from their surroundings, mythology, and daily life, infusing their creations with a unique sense of place and identity.
