about craft
The Bastar Iron Craft, or Loha Shilp, practiced in villages around Kodaigaon in Chhattisgarh, is an ancient tradition rooted in hand-forged metalwork. Artisans transform scrap iron through repeated heating and hammering, without welding, casting, or molds, using simple handmade tools. Known for forms like the Raodev horse, Tree of Life, and ritual lamps, the craft reflects raw aesthetics, spiritual beliefs, and a deep connection to the forest.
