about craft
Palm leaf engraving, locally known as Tala Pattachitra, is an ancient art form from Odisha, practiced notably in Bhubaneswar. Traditionally used to record sacred texts before paper, Palmyra palm leaves are seasoned for durability and etched with a sharp iron lekhani. The engraved lines are filled with lamp soot or black ink to reveal detailed mythological narratives in striking contrast.
