Sweety Fouzdar belongs to one of the last families preserving Bishnupur’s traditional craft of hand-painted Daasavtar Taash. Working with cloth cards prepared using bael fruit gum, she continues a courtly tradition of mythological decks, each meticulously drawn and painted by hand.

Dashavatar Taash is a rare hand-painted playing card tradition from Bishnupur, West Bengal, developed under the patronage of the Malla kings. Each handmade deck combines painting, mythology, and storytelling, depicting themes such as the ten avatars of Vishnu and other sacred narratives. Crafted on layered cloth bases and painted by hand, the cards reflect high artistic skill, ritual knowledge, and a unique blend of play and cultural heritage.
