about the event

Leather puppetry craft of Andhra Pradesh is called Tolu Bommalata, a shadow puppetry theater tradition. The workshop aimed to address the need for more drawing/sketching artisans in Nimmalakunta, particularly in the leather puppetry cluster. The workshop commenced with a thorough around four months long training phase focusing on paper and pencil techniques. Subsequently, participants were introduced to materials, tools, and advanced techniques such as coloring and leather punching. The content was collaboratively designed with the artisans, who took on the responsibility of training the women themselves.
